Integrative and Functional Nutrition Summer Internship

Kaizen Nutrition & Wellness is a growing integrative and functional nutrition practice located in Chapel Hill/Hillsborough area.  KNW provides functional nutrition counseling, focused on identifying the root cause of symptoms and improving positive health outcomes through restoring gut health, removing inflammatory foods, environmental toxins, and supporting mitochondrial functional and adrenals. 

KNW is in need of a part time intern that would like to gain experience in a private practice setting managing digital content.  This is an unpaid internship position with flexible hours and work location, designed for the student who wishes to gain experience working with digital media, writing nutrition communications, or learning more about integrative and functional practice.  The ideal candidate has experience with digital media or nutrition, is reliable, organized, is a self-starter, and can work independently. 

The internship may include the following tasks/projects:

Digital Media

  • Drafting and curating content for social media channels and website

  • Evidence-based research related to content generation

  • Developing a digital media strategy and schedule

  • Utilize online editing software (such as Canva or Adobe) for social media graphics

  • Utilize squarespace website platform to post content


  • Draft scripts for content

  • Post on digital platforms as needed

Integrative Practice

  • Learn more about use of essential oils in health and wellness

  • Learn more about modalities such as reiki, acupuncture, massage, meditation, yoga, qi gong, etc., including their efficacy and utility in health and wellness

  • Learn more about the scope of practice for integrative and functional dietitians

Functional Practice

  • Learn more about a functional approach and how it is unique through content generation activities

  • Utilize the Functional Matrix to draft content for each section, gaining a thorough understanding of how the tool is utilized to triage a client’s plan of care and tools used to support that process

  • Learn about strategies to identify the root cause of disease or symptoms, and protocols to restore health, utilizing nutrition science, testing, and supplements as needed

  • Learn about the impact of environmental toxins on our health, including parasites, virus’ and bacteria, heavy metals, and mold

  • Other opportunities depending on career/personal interests of the intern
